The Vicksburg Rotary Club is one of 34,000 clubs around the world is affiliated with Rotary International which has over 1.2 million members. Membership consists of local businesspeople, professionals and community leaders.
It is a service club that is active in the Vicksburg community through its club projects. It also donates many dollars raised through its annual Showboat performances. In addition, deserving members of the greater Vicksburg area apply for and are given grants for individual projects that they sponsor, thus making our dollars spread even further throughout the community.
Members meet every Friday at noon for lunch, fellowship and a featured speaker. Members get the satisfaction of giving back to their community through many Rotary projects each year.
Mercer Munn Award
The Vicksburg Rotary Club was honored to have Mercer Munn as one of its members since the club’s inception in 1924. He epitomized the type of citizen who constantly finds ways to give back to the community through service and activities he participated in. He owned the Munn Insurance Agency on Main Street and consistently rallied club members to do their best for the village he declared “the center of the universe.”
Since his passing, the club has chosen one non-Rotarian from the greater Vicksburg area who has made a significant contribution to the community. In 2013 it was Mike Hardy who was president of the Village and served the schools, his church and the Rotary Showboat through his painting and set designs. In 2012 it was Bonnie Holmes who was one of the co-founders of the Vicksburg Historical Society.
